Plain Jane Theatre's Commitment

What has been important to us here at Plain Jane Theatre?

Celebrating community through the joy of music and theatre.

Creating and performing Musical Theatre is a joyous and transformative experience.

We are grateful to do this work and commit to creating a dynamic space where all people feel welcome,

and all stories are celebrated onstage and off.

We honor and are grateful for the long history and lineage of Indigenous, Black, People of Color, Queer and Trans Communities. And support and commit to the great work towards healing and justice for all people.

We have been learning and are committed to taking an active role as artists in dismantling forms of oppression, marginalization, and discrimination. We also understand that words can be just words so plans of action help us stay on track. An important initiative here in our community that we value is the 35//50 Initiative A coalition of BIPOC artists offering actions towards a meaningful change towards a more equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible future in the performing arts. To show our commitment, we plan to track and share data of artists involved in our productions with the aim to have a minimum 35% BIPOC and 50% women, trans, and gender diverse folks by the 2024-2025 season.

We would love to hear from you as we move forward for this is a living statement and will be updated as we continue to listen and learn.

We miss seeing in the theatre and look forward to sharing the space with you again!

Be well,

Kate Ryan, Plain Jane Theatre
